A lifetime of passion about property
Betty Bouras is passionate about property. The Director of Beltana Conveyancing grew up in a family of property investors and developers.
“Property was always the main topic of conversation,” she said. “So you quickly learned that, you’ve got to do this and this is how you can develop this property.”
The early lessons led her to join a property group early in her career and learn about general property development and management and asset protection, deepening her knowledge further. Working in the sector just made her even more passionate.
“Even though I didn't start in conveyancing, my mind was always on property, so that’s what made me change into the industry eventually. And you know, it's been go, go since - it's been amazing.”
Betty has recently moved her team into a beautiful new office, creating a central place for clients and her team members. Her passion for doing property better also led her to Realtime and after year, she has seen firsthand how digital transformation can revolutionise a business. Here are her top tips.
1. Embrace technology that reduces your stress.
Betty’s key piece of advice is to look for technology that will alleviate your stress. To this end, tech that is integrated with the programs you use daily, and feature automations create clear task flows that lead to consistent outcomes. This can be a game changer for a conveyancing practice owner.
“Teaching a new staff member to use Realtime has been so great because the steps are easy to follow,” she said.
The platform’s automated processes and clear task flows ensure that nothing gets missed, giving Betty the confidence to let her staff work independently.
2. Going paper-free is liberating.
Betty never thought she'd be able to go paperless at Beltana Conveyancing, but adopting a digital workflow not only made it possible, she vows she’ll never go back.
“I thought, I'd never go paperless. No, no way. I can't work without paper! I've got to carry those files with me!!” she said.
“But, it's been amazing. And now I don't want to go back to paper. With 99% of the tasks, I just love it because I can work anywhere.
3. Make time for coffee.
One of the benefits of having more free time, less stress, and less paper to reference is being able to spend more time with clients.
“One of my main goals was to go into an office and feel confident in getting people to come and see me at my office and have a coffee. I enjoy talking to people,” she said.
One of the benefits Betty has found from using Realtime is that she can confidently leave her team to work without the need for constant supervision and worrying that something important would be missed. This has also improved the morale of her team.
4. Just do it.
When asked what advice she'd give to others, Betty's response was simple and direct: "Just do it."
She believes there's nothing to lose and so much to gain from digital transformation in conveyancing.
“Give it a go. I'd say there's nothing to lose,” she said. “The tasks, the automation, the stress relief, it’s freed me up for time to spend with our family, because everything's so much more efficient and takes half the time to do. So it’s been amazing.”
